Install QGIS

At www.qgis.org you can find the current version of QGIS and you could download it from there for your OS.

Add maps

In QGIS you don't always have to develop the map material yourself. You can load the material directly from Google or OpenStreetMap. You can find the necessary links for the video here:

Installation of the georeferencer

The georeferencer is not installed in QGIS from the beginning. It must be added afterwards. Then it is available under "Raster".

With the Georeferencer plugin, geographic images can be referenced in an existing project. To do this, you need to know in which coordinate system the project is located.

This means that even very old aerial photographs from a good 100 years ago can be transferred to today's satellite images. This is how we gain insights into how certain areas have changed geographically.
